H. doesn’t go to school until the afternoon, so we have been spending time doing some extra reading. I’m a big believer that once a person knows how to read, the possibilities are endless… and life as a we parents know it ends. No more fooling the kids into thinking the sign says “SIT DOWN AND BEHAVE OR YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR ICE CREAM!” While doing the reading, I realized H. can’t recognize her numbers. Sure she knows 0-9 but 10+ becomes a sea of 6382625191028236452 to her. Off I went to grab the chalk, chalkboard, eraser and sat down to start with the basics, 1-10. Soon it went to counting by 5’s and 10’s. Will she remember tomorrow which number is which or how to count by 5’s… probably not, but repetition works. or I hope it does.
All the numbers got me thinking. No matter where you go or what you do, it’s all about numbers. How many clients, how many friends on FB/twitter, how many blog hits per day, profit margins…. the list is endless. Numbers are everywhere.
To some, numbers are a foreign language. To others, it’s like the matrix and it all makes sense in their mind. I’m ok with math through Algebra but beyond that FORGET IT! 🙂 It’s why I could never be an engineer. Even at the apple orchard this past Friday, my friends Jamey had me staring at the clouds as she explained how much money we should be refunded. DUH! 😉 I think I told her, “I trust you, whatever.” or something to that affect.
Life goes so fast, people are always throwing numbers, numbers, names, products, new technology in our faces. It’s easy to become overwhelmed quickly, or atleast it is for me. I am a K.I.S.S kind of person. When life starts to get to chaotic, I tend to fall back to the basics. I have to remind myself, having a large number of friends on FB/twitter/flickr doesn’t make me a better person/photographer. My success in life is not based on the amount of money in my bank account (though having some extra $$ is always nice) or how many big words I can use in a sentence. Life to me is about knowing I have wonderful friends and family in my life. It’s about keeping life simple, straight to the point, and remembering the basics… 1+1=2 and ABC.
This blog is about getting back to the basics, the start of why I love photography. Yes, I have a business. Yes, I am a mom. Yes, I am a wife, and an individual. While I love looking about all variety of blogs, I love those that add a touch of who the writer is. Over the past year, I have been doing a of soul searching and found a lot of other people who have been doing the same. People struggle and feel like they are the only person having a hard time “everyone else lives a perfect life, how could they comprehend what I am going through.” This blog is sharing my experiences so maybe it will help someone… the good, the bad, and the ugly. I hope you enjoy it.
